Acceptance (of your deeds) has signs that prove and characteristics that make one hope to believe that they were accepted. From them: that the person finds himself upon goodness, forbearance, and obedience after Ramadan at a higher level than he was at before (Ramadan). He does his ‘ebadah (worship) with zeal, preserving his wajibaat(obligatory acts) and fulfilling his prayers in the Masjid with the jama’ah (congregation). Loving righteousness, acting upon it, and commanding it; as well as hatting transgression, staying away from it, and warning from it. But as for the one who’s condition after Ramadan is like his condition before it, or worse than it; headless in misguidance, being lazy in fulfilling his wajibaat and missing them, and immersed in muharramaat (impermissible acts), then this is from the signs of the loser and a proof what he wasn’t successful. He didn’t seize the moment in the season of righteousness, didn’t show any inspiration in the season of donations, didn’t ask Allah’s forgiveness, and didn’t do what he needed to in the month of forgiveness and success. So what a great failure and enormous calamity!

Makkah2Medinah

In the name of Allah (The One). I send peace and blessings upon His Messenger (Al-Mustafa) and upon His Messenger’s family, companions, and those who follow him in righteousness until the Day of Judgment (Yowm Al-Qiyaamah).

There’s no doubt that everyone who fasted the month of Ramadan and stood up (in prayer) during his nights was hoping that his fasting and standing was correct and accepted, as well being grateful in his striving. He supplicates to Allah to make this request a reality and complete for him what he desires.

Q/A: Laylatul Qadr: Women & Menstruation

Q & A with Shaykh ‘Ubaid al Jaabiree (hafithahullaah).

Question: What are the actions that a woman who is on her menses, the actions she might perform while she is looking for Lailatul Qadr?

Answer: Oh my daughter, have glad tidings and give glad tidings to the others; your sisters in Islaam the daughters of the Sunnah, those that follow the Sunnah – that the woman who is on her menses, she is allowed to do all things that are legislated for the men and the women that are out of their menses except for fasting and praying.  Besides that, he said, you know and you should teach the other sisters in Islaam. The Muslim woman is allowed to stand in Lailatul Qadr or establish in Lailatul Qadr – the recitation of the Qur’an, and making dua supplication to Allaah for all that is good, as well as istighfaar seeking Allaah’s forgiveness, and takbeer saying Allaahu Akbar and tasbeeh saying SubhaanAllaah, and tahmeed saying Alhamdulillaah and saying also laa illaaha illAllaah and the other forms of remembrance and dhikr.

The shaikh  reminded us of the statement that the Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam) used to say while looking for Lailatul Qadr: “Oh Allaah you are the Pardoner and the giver of asylum, so Pardon me because you love to Pardon.”
And he said that you should know that any person that is kept back, and prevented from doing what is better for them from performing righteous actions, any person who is prohibited or a matter comes between them and these righteous actions due to a legislated excuse then this person should know that if they have the right intention and they have a strong will to come closer to Allaah and to better themselves with prayers or fasting or with whatever action it might be, whoever has an excuse a legislated excuse and has that strong will and that strong intention then they should know that Allaah Writes the ajar or benefits or reward  for them. This is as we find in the hadeeth of the Prophet  (sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam) when he was travelling with some of the sahabah on a path to the battlefield where he said:

“There are a people in Madeenah from your brothers, that you don’t pass any mountain, and you don’t go through any valley except that they, your brothers in Madeenah are with you in the ajar, in the reward and benefits, that you are gathering the good deeds that you are gathering by going out in the path of Allaah, the only thing that stopped them meaning your brothers in Madeenah the only thing that stopped them and came between them in being with you is a legislated Islaamic excuse.”

How to Spend Laylatul Qadr in Worship

The eighth question of Fatwa no. 2392

Q 8: How to spend Laylat-ul-Qadr (the Night of Decree) in worship; is it by offering Salah (Prayer), reciting the Qur’an, reading the Sirah (the Prophet’s biography),

(Part No. 10Page No. 414)

listening to lectures and lessons, or celebrating it in the Masjid (Mosque)?

A: First: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) used to be exceptionally diligent in his worship during the last ten days of Ramadan, more so than at any other time; praying, reciting the Qur’an and supplicating. It was reported by Al-Bukhari and Muslim on the authority of `Aishah (may Allah be pleased upon her) that when the last ten (nights of Ramadan) began, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) would stay up the night, wake his family (for prayer) and tighten his Izar (i.e. exert himself in worship and abstain from conjugal intercourse). Ahmad and Muslim reported: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) used to strive hard in worship during the last ten days of Ramadan as he never did at any other time.

Second: The Prophet (peace be upon him) exhorted to stay up and pray Qiyam (optional Night Prayer) on Laylat-ul-Qadr out of faith and in the hope of reward. It was narrated on the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Anyone who spends Laylat-ul-Qadr in Qiyam, out of Iman (Faith) and Ihtisab (confident anticipation of Allah’s Reward), will have their past sins forgiven. (Related by the Group of Hadith Compilers except Ibn Majah) This Hadith indicates that it is prescribed to stay up and spend this night in Qiyam.

Third: One of the best Du‘a’s (supplications) to be said on Laylat-ul-Qadr is that which the Prophet (peace be upon him) taught to`Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her). It was reported by Al-Tirmidhy who ranked the Hadith as Sahih (authentic), that `Aishah(may Allah be pleased with her) said: I said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, if I know which night is Laylat-ul-Qadr, what should I say on that night?’ He replied, ‘Say: Allahumma innaka ‘afuwwun tuhib-ul-‘afwa fa‘ffu ‘anny [O Allah! You are All-Forgiving and You love forgiveness, so forgive me].’

(Part No. 10Page No. 415)

Fourth: With regard to specifying which night of Ramadan is Laylat-ul-Qadr; this requires specific evidence, however the odd-numbered nights during the last ten nights are more likely than others. The night of the twenty-seventh is the most likely to be Laylat-ul-Qadr based upon the Hadiths reported in this regard.

Fifth: With regard to Bid‘ahs (innovations in religion), they are not permissible during Ramadan or at other time. It was authentically reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) stated: Anyone who performs an action which is not in accordance with this matter of ours (Islam) will have it rejected. According to another narration: Anyone who introduces anything into this matter of ours (Islam) which is not of it will have it rejected.

We know of no basis for the celebrations held during some nights of Ramadan. Truly, the best of guidance is the guidance of Muhammad (peace be upon him) and the worst of matters are those which are newly-invented in the religion.

May Allah grant us success! May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions!

Daily Program for the Muslim Woman in Ramadhaan

In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, Most Merciful. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family and companions. As for what follows;

Question: What is the daily program for the muslim woman in Ramadan so that she can worship her Lord and at the same time tend to the needs of her household?

Sheikh Sulaymaan ar-Ruhayli, may Allaah preserve him, answers:

“The daily program for the muslim woman is that of the mans except that the woman increases in an act of worship and that is that if the woman strives in tending to the needs of her husband and household and prepares enough food for them that will suffice them, then she is in the obedience of Allaah if she seeks the reward from Allaah while doing that.

In this is her reward and an increasement of her good deeds and it is befitting for the muslim woman to busy her tongue with the remembrance of Allaah when she is preparing the food. So while she is cooking she is sayingsubhaanallaah, while she is cooking she is saying laa ilaaha illa Allaah, while she is cooking she is remembering Allaah and in that is a great reward for her. Like this, preparing dinner will never divert her from the worship of her Lord in the day of Ramadan.

So congratulations to the muslim woman who serves her husband and the people of her household and all the while looking for the reward from Allaah and along with this she isn’t neglectful about the remembrance of Allaah and she carries out what she is able to from worship during the day of Ramadan. For indeed she has succeeded a great success.”
