Emergency Medicine Specialist

Position Description – Emergency Medicine Specialist is a board certified specialist, by recognized college of Emergency Medicine (US/CAN/ UK/AUS. NZ/SA) who works as a staff member of Emergency Medical Service Unit (EMSU) which functions under Emergency Medical Services Division (EMSD) of the Medical Department, under Saudi Aramco Medical Services Organization (SAMSO).

His/her responsibility is to treat emergency medical conditions (adult, pediatric, and obstetric emergencies), run the Emergency Medical Service Unit in an efficient manner, oversee the unit during his/her shift as the most expert person providing critical care, resuscitation to every sick patient.

Responds to disaster or emergency events company wide as Chief Triage Officer, and performs critical care patients transport including Medivac.

Minimum Requirements The successful completion of a specialty training program in Emergency Medicine with board certification or the successful completion of specialty training in another appropriate specialty with board certification and significant clinical experience in Emergency Medicine as indicated below:

Residency training and Board Certification in Emergency Medicine from programs and professional colleges in the USA, Canada, Ireland, United Kingdom, New Zealand or Australia or equivalent with a minimum of 2 years full-time clinical practice.

Residency training and Board Certification in the specialties of Internal Medicine, Pediatrics or General Surgery with successful completion of joint examinations in Emergency Medicine of the respective specialty and a minimum of 2 years of full-time clinical practice.

Residency training and Board Certification in the specialties of Internal Medicine, Pediatrics or General Surgery with at least 5 years of full-time clinical practice in Emergency Medicine.
Duties & Responsibilities A. Delivers high quality emergency medical care.

B. Takes medical history, examines patient, orders appropriate diagnostic studies, and initiates treatment. Interprets obtained data, makes a diagnosis and recommends/orders treatment, medication and follow-up care, obtains consultation when necessary, and provides completedocumentation.

C. Administers life-saving and immediate treatment as dictated by patient’s diagnosis and condition.

D. Performs emergency treatment on in-patients as needed, such as in response to cardiopulmonary arrest (code blue).

E. Active in teaching and training activities in emergency medicine for physicians, nurses, students, residents and para-professional.

F. Responds to emergency requests for medical aid as consistent with policy.

G. Respects the confidentiality of all medical information.

H. Advises company of employee capacity to perform work.

I. When assigned, acts as Chief, EMS, or in other roles as required.

J. Active in Division QI and Disaster Preparedness activities.

K. Gives advice in matters related to emergency medicine to SAMSO physicians and other health care professionals who may consult him/her.
