“…call me IF you need me…”

Saheehul Bukhaari – Narrated ‘Adi bin Haatim, I heard the Prophet saying: "Save yourself from Hell-fire even by giving half a date-fruit in charity." – The book of Obligatory Charity #1336

"Call me if you need me." – For many of us, this statement comes from the heart and we mean well. Do you know someone in need? – Give. Don’t wait for them to call you. They may feel too ashamed to ask or there may be something preventing them from making the call. Be like the Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) in giving charity. If you have intentions to give something, give it as soon as you can, In Shaa Allaah.

When you shop for groceries, pick up perishables for them as well. Leave food, money or clothing on their doorstep without being seen (if possible). Pre-paid (no interest) credit cards come in handy as well. They can be used to take care of medical expenses or pay a bill.

Give from what you already have in your home. Narrated ‘Aaishah (radhiyallaahu ‘anhaa): Allaah’s Messenger (sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) said, "When a woman gives in charity some of the foodstuff (which she has in her house) without spoiling it (i.e. being extravagant), she will receive the reward for what she has spent, and her husband will receive the reward because of his earning, and the storekeeper will also have a reward similar to it. The reward of one will not decrease the reward of the others." Saheehul Bukhaari, The Book of Obligatory Sadaqah #1344.

There are many things that we can do to relieve a Muslim of their hardships. Don’t wait for them to ask. Don’t say call me if you need me. Just help them and don’t withhold. Narrated Asma, Allaah’s Messenger said, "Give (in charity) and do not give reluctantly lest Allaah should give you in a limited amount; and do not withhold your money lest Allah should withhold it from you." Saheehul Baukhaari, Th Book of Gifts #2426
